Addiction. Once it becomes a part of you it’s hard to leave behind, it is bonded to you, and you are bonded to it. Addiction has been an issue that humanity has had to deal with for a long time. What are some things you can think of that people could get addicted to? There are obvious answers, opioids, alcohol, cocaine, and many more, but addiction isn’t just limited to this category of substances. In fact, anything could be addictive. There are people who have become so dependent on everyday substances, like coffee for example.
Coffee, sugar, are two substances that we may consume daily, two substances that could be addictive. Addiction doesn’t always start because of a substance, sometimes it would start because of someone’s addictive personality. People who struggle with this will form a dependency on any sort of substance they find enjoyment in.
Addiction isn’t always something someone may consume. With smartphones being common household items, media consumption addiction seems to be rising. Our phones are something that is always on us, and we may feel that need or urge to check it, to see if we have any new notifications pending, or if there is anything worth scrolling through. Some addictions arent as harmful as others, but addiction is addiction, any excessive consumption of anything is harmful to a person.
Do you believe that addiction is a bigger problem now than it was before?
