One of the hottest topics of discussion is the subject of abortion. This is an issue that many people have strong opinions on. The two main sides of the debate are pro-life and pro-choice.
Pro-life defenders feel that once started a pregnancy should not be terminated. According to this article the pro-life campaign is pushing toward a more powerful name to get their point across. This new name is anti-abortion or abortion abolitionist.
Pro-choice on the other hand believes that our government should not make the decision for a woman. An opinion article from Jill Anderson shows that the pro-choice angle pushes that the decision to end a pregnancy is up to the woman herself, not the government. Pro-choice also believes that this is a religious issue and that there should consistently be a separation of church and state.
This debate has split our country practically down the middle and it seems as though everyone has a strong opinion on the matter. There is huge pressure from both ends on having governmental laws on the issue. The big debate is whether this is truly a murder or strictly religious belief?
Dear Haley,
I agree with you that abortion has been a really talked about issue. Everybody has an opinion whether we disagree with it. Abortion can be seen as murder while others just see it as making a good choice. I think they have these thoughts because they know if they will not be able to take care of the baby or will just not be able to love it. On the other hand people who are against abortion have different ways of thinking for example if you get pregnant you will need to shape up and take care of yourself and your unborn child. From their view they think if you’re going to do adult things then better act like one therefore keeping a baby that you might not really want. Is it fair to bring a child into this world because of a mistake you did would you abort it or would you give it up for adoption? Once you have spent nine months creating a human being you have learned to love it and it will be harder to give up. So I think women abort their babies because it will be much easier for them to do that then to give up their child to a strange person.
I enjoyed reading both sides of the argument. It left me thinking about how most of the issues that come up in most countries are tied with religious people and non-religious.
I appreciate that you presented both sides of the argument in an unbiased way. It allows the reader to develop their own opinion on the topic through both your own words and the two articles that you left. I would have to say that I am a “pro-life” supporter. I think your final question is interesting and that the answer to it will change dramatically depending on who you ask.
