In the article, “My Body, My Choice: Why Overruling Roe vs Wade Is Not a Pro-Life Movement” (Regional Health– Americas 2022) I learned that preventing abortions equates to denying women and girls the right to receive proper health care. The restrictions imposed on women’s reproductive rights are putting their safety in jeopardy due to the fact they are forcing these women to undergo unsafe abortion procedures given that they can no longer have access to safe abortion care. These inadequate abortion practices can lead to serious mental and physical health consequences and cause between 4.7 and 13.2 percent of maternal deaths globally.
I believe that being able to exercise the choice of abortion should be a human right. Abortion in my opinion is crucial to taking charge of your life and health. Keeping abortion safe and legal protects the health of pregnant people and preserves their human right to make personal medical and life choices. I believe that restrictive laws lead to unsafe care. Most of all I believe that when abortion is a choice for women, it saves lives.
As I continue to learn more about abortion, I would like to know what would abortion compromise look like.
Dear, Jocelyn
Your letter made me realize and remember why it’s so important to have abortion laws for women. It is crucial, that we as a society agree that it is essential that we have health care and safe places for women seeking an abortion. Though not everyone believes in abortion, everyone should come to a mutual agreement that women can do whatever they please with their bodies. We must not judge women for their choices, but instead like said before create a sheltered place for women. Thank you truly for bringing awareness to abortion rights Jocelyn.
Sincerely, Mei Salazar
