A hot sunny, afternoon

There you see that beautiful brown skin girl with pigtails barefoot

sweating , Scavenging for metal items

Hoping to find something just so she could bring it home

And turn it into a pile of pesos for mami’s groceries

She didn’t like the fact that we were collecting metals to help her out but we would just do it behind her back

We just wanted to help out, it was easy money.

It didn’t hit me till I move to the U.S that was when

My past hit me

Only if my pillow talk

All those nights I cried myself to sleep

Only those 4 white and purple walls could explain what I was going through

Ohh god it wasn’t easy not having a good relationship with my dad

Neither with my mom

I can’t count how many time suicidal thoughts came to mind

It was god’s purpose that kept me alive

Here we go is my junior year

And here I am sitting down with a pencil and a blank piece of paper

Tears ran down my face as I wrote a poem, a strong tear

Writing became my best friend

I was able express my emotions .
