Jayana Locke, a senior marketing manager at Digi international, defines a sustainable city as  “an urban center engineered to improve its environmental impact through urban planning and management.” To truly call a city a  sustainable city there are 6 traits that make up a sustainable city: Transportation, Car charging stations, Public resources and parks, improved water conservation and waste management, urban farming, green architecture. All these traits make up for a truly sustainable city.

All  6 traits have a few factors and effects that have a positive impact on the environment and society, creating a progressive and healthy community. Locke then gave examples of sustainable cities or cities on their way to being sustainable, here are some examples; Copenhagen, Denmark,  Portland, Oregon, and  Capetown, South Africa, these are only a few of the many examples presented by Jayana Locke.
