dear philippine eagle,

you are strong birds with wings stretching out to the skies,

you are made of your shaggy brown and white feathers,

you are from your stormy blue eyes to your sunshine yellow feet,

you are living in forests that are shrinking by the day,

with typhoons yanking at the trees around you,

and storms pounding at the edges of your home.

dear philippine eagle,

you are a species on the verge of extinction,

surviving by the few who know and are helping,

you are being hurt by humans,

humans who use fossil fuels,

humans who keep saying that nothing is wrong,

humans who don’t think of others.

dear philippine eagle,

no one is going to take your home,

no one is going to destroy your forests,

no one is going to cause your extinction,

we are rising to the occasion so we can help you.

dear philippine eagle,

we are working on spreading the word,

we are working on using less fossil fuels,

we are working on finding a solution.

I like your poem because it talks about how eagles and other kind of birds can go extinct by some people that are causing it.

I decided to create my poem based off of the poem “dear matafele peinam” by Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner writing to her daughter. I wrote mine to the Philippine Eagles whos population and homes are shrinking because of climate change we have caused. When you read my poem I hope you gain a deeper knowledge of the struggles of just one species we have hurt through climate change and decide to make some sort of difference in the world.
