Hi, my presentation is about the MTA and its problems with delays.

My activism topic is the problems with the MTA. The purpose in choosing this topic is to bring the problems of the MTA to the attention of the public. With the use of a petition, I hope to bring sort of solutions to these problems.

This presentation fits into my topic because it focuses on MTA delays. The presentation talks about the causes of the delays. It also talks about the effects on subway riders overall.

I invite you to read our blog and our petition. Help be part of a solution and fix the problems of the MTA.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is “It is apparent that there has been a lack of legislation to solve these issues”. Could you explain or give an example for the “lack of legislation” mentioned. I understand the purpose of petition, however simply demanding for Andrew. M. Cuomo to fix MTA will not change anything. As an example of the thereafter mentioned “lack of legislation”, I believe that closing down subway systems during the late night to very early morning will fix these issues. Only 1.5 percent of weekday riders, or about 85,000 people, use the subway between 12:30 a.m. and 5 a.m., according to 2016 data (source: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/30/nyregion/subway-end-weeknight-service.html). Even with these low numbers, nighttime trains could be replaced with busses. There needs to be a shutdown to make drastic changes to the subway system. Work is extremely hard to finish from morning to evening, as construction work must be planned around still allowing those who usually go to that station a viable necessary option of transport. New York is one of the only systems in the world that has a 24/7 subway system, and the damage shows.

Subway travel is an imperative part of being able to get to parks. Fixing subway travel issues theoretically will lead more people to use the subway to get to parks, increasing the amount of people going to parks. I invite you to view your blog on similar park related issues https://parks.home.blog/
