I chose Shakespeare's "Othello," and read Desdemona's lines in 1.3.208-218. As I rehearsed before uploading my final recording, I learned that tone is everything in a vocal performance. By stressing certain words and varying pace and volume, I found that the meaning can be conveyed more fully. As I practiced reading, I learned that Desdemona feels troubled in this scene. I had previously analyzed these lines, so I knew that she was choosing her husband over her father. However, reading the lines aloud really helped me understand how conflicted Desdemona was feeling.
