,
I am from a bed
from Mattress Firm.

I am from my bedroom
Where  i used to played for hours.

I am from uptown
Where loud music in buildings being played.

I am from the smell of Spanish food,

From Aida and Carlos.

I am from the chismosos,

From the “you go out their and show them how it’s done”.

I am from a family that for generations
always drag
members to church.

I am from Santiago DR,
And big meals,

From the turtle that my brother
sent flying because it bit his lip,

On a shelf with cards
and notes to remember them.

I am from happy times
Sad times
But all of the time its family time.

    Hi Angelina,

Thank you for sharing your poem. I loved learning about you, your family and your culture through the language you used.

Have you read “The Poet X” by Elizabeth Acevedo? Do check it out, if you have a chance. I think you will like it.

    Best,
    Lona
