I am from fine china

from knitted dolls and Barbies

I am from the brick house across from the blue house

and house where strangers sat on our steps

I am from purple and white orchids

whose petals falling symbolized how the years were passing

I am from the swingset and tricycles

from  “Juma” and “Juanabear”

I am from getting together every month and eating plenty of food

and from good hair

from dark eyes

I am from “Bismillah”

from flying to America

and from leaving our home countries for better opportunity

From ballet and taekwondo

I am from those moments

I am from good company
