Have you ever been bullied?

Been put down?

As I got older I realized,

People will judge

People will put you down

Sadly, this is the inevitable truth

This can be for many reasons

Because you “ look different”

Because you “ act different”

In middle school this was the case for me,

I did not have many friends

The others made fun of us

I was quiet like a mouse

Minded my own business,

At my school

There wasn’t many people like me

Which till this day I think is why I was picked on

That’s besides the point

It felt like everything was against me

It felt like everything got up and just walked away from me

In the beginning of 7th grade I met my math teacher

Mr.C ,

At the time

Easily the coolest person i’ve met

Throughout the year

He pushed me out of my comfort zone

He believed in me

He made me join the school soccer team

Which now I regret not doing earlier

I talked to more people while on the team which helped

I’ve always been keeping my problems away from everyone

Stored away in a safe

Mostly because they’re my problems not theirs

I still struggle with that now but it’s slightly better

Throughout middle school I learned that

I should not care what people think

I should let them define who I am

I shouldn’t let them shape who I want to be

I had dreams

I had aspirations,

Just like any other kid

When you’re being made fun of especially as a younger kid

It’s not easy to dream big

People constantly putting you down

Really hurts your dreams

To all of those who get bullied

I love and respect every single one of you

For putting up with those horrible people

Mr.C helped me be more outgoing

I appreciate him for everything he did for me.

    Dear Kris,

Thank you for sharing this piece. Not a lot of us knew this about you and I’m happy you shared. I think your a very independent person but at the same time able to crack joke and be the energy of the group. I think this stems back to your experience in middle school and it’s interesting just to see how much soccer has impacted you as a person. I’ll make sure to get you a backpack to prevent you from getting scoliosis from all the carrying you do on 2k over the weekend.

P.S. Had to post twice cause I didn’t log in the first time.

    Sincerely,
    Vesna Sot
