In society, people often deal with tragedy in different ways.
Many use prayer to cope with it, ” “It’s a part of our deep longings and hopes and fears that we do have a sense of the divine. In the moments of tragedy in our lives there’s an impulse, there’s an instinct to turn to however we understand the higher power.”” People often find comfort in their higher power, and can console themselves and others with it. However, many people complain that this does not have any action involved, in that people do not try to fix the problem, rather just pray about it.
Many people remember, and pay tribute to tragedy. Such as with 9/11. Each day on that date, people visit the memorial, and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragedy, whether that be family, friends, or even random people that one never met. Even when “…14 years, to the tragedy of the unprovoked terror attacks that propelled this nation into the Global War on Terror.” accidents occurred years ago, such tragedies are remembered for years to come.
Another thing to think about it the five stages of grief. These are not only applicable to individuals, but to our society. “The five stages, denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance are a part of the framework that makes up our learning to live with the one we lost.” Society goes through these stages, and paying tribute is part of the acceptance stage. It is a process that we all have to go through, individually and as a society.Tags: 9/11 coping loss society tragedy tribute
