I would say that ensuring equality and freedom are major American values. These are things that the country was founded upon, and they still are spoken about much to this day. In America’s own preamble to the constitution it says, “... secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”. Considering the importance of the constitution to the American people, one could certainly take this as evidence to uphold the idea that freedom is an important belief to Americans. As mentioned, equality is also a major value in America. America is a large country made up of people from all over the world, of every race, culture, and ethnicity. American society could not function if all were not treated as equals. In a speech by Martin Luther King Jr, which is highly regarded by many, he speaks of injustice of inequality. Tied into his “I Have a Dream” speech, he spoke his wish that America upholds its promise of “All men are created equal”, from the Declaration of Independence. These documents show that freedom and equality for all are great American beliefs.

I like how you talked about traditional American values. I absolutely agree that these are what the country is founded on. Leaders like MLK have definitely made these more of a reality. My question for you is: while country was founded on these values like freedom, unity, and diversity, do Americans exemplify those values today? Overall great essay, but if you expanded the topic to include a current debate it would make it more exciting. Here is an article to help on your research.
I hope to see what changes to make and your opinion on the issue.
