I would say that ensuring equality and freedom are major American values. These are things that the country was founded upon, and they still are spoken about much to this day. In America’s own preamble to the constitution it says, “... secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity…”. Considering the importance of the constitution to the American people, one could certainly take this as evidence to uphold the idea that freedom is an important belief to Americans. As mentioned, equality is also a major value in America. America is a large country made up of people from all over the world, of every race, culture, and ethnicity. American society could not function if all were not treated as equals. In a speech by Martin Luther King Jr, which is highly regarded by many, he speaks of injustice of inequality. Tied into his “I Have a Dream” speech, he spoke his wish that America upholds its promise of “All men are created equal”, from the Declaration of Independence. These documents show that freedom and equality for all are great American beliefs.
