Dear Leaders of America,
I realize that it is hard to take strong stances sometimes especially on heated subjects. However, this occurrence and this issue should not be this way your stances should be firm and clear. It is true everyone is entitled to free speech, but this free speech is very harmful to others and therefore should not be tolerated. To stand idly by while white supremacist tell other groups that they deserve less rights and wave flags that we have lost so many lives fighting against is not just un-american, but hateful. There shouldn’t be any question when another american threatens another that we stop them. Waving flags such as the confederate and Nazi is threatening to many minorities because the history behind these flags carries so much negativity and hate.
As a citizen in one of these minority groups I am fearful that history may be allowed to repeat itself if we allow these individuals to preach their hate. It will empower others who feel this way and will, as we’ve seen, lead to more violence and death. With feelings being this high it is dangerous to allow these people to walk the streets yelling what they are, with guns no less. Their speeches and videos being shared along social media strike fear in many as they call for violence. Freedom of speech is to share ideas not hate. As we continue to see this unfold please take note of the violence and pain that we seen. Please consider standing up and defending what’s right: our rights and our lives.
