Regarding the ethical debate of using stem cells, most people accept the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), or adult cells that have been genetically reprogrammed to their original state. This type of technology can create viable human embryos. To be intellectually consistent, human rights must extend to all somatic cells, so iPSCs violate human rights too by this argument. This basically invalidates the potentiality argument against stem cell research.

There was also a study done with stem cells in mice, where after cell transplantation, diabetic mice had lower blood glucose levels. This could be indicative of the potential of stem cells in humans and also helps the development of processes to develop stem cells.
