I am from Oakland, CA

A place of different colors and creatures

I am from a city of individuals

where everyone is unique in their own way

I am from a family of women.

Each are as strong and independent as the other

I am from a home where I feel comfortable

But I always feel like I’m different

I am from the dark half of my thoughts

A half that finds the flaws in everything

I am from the half of me

that can never find happiness

I am from a place of confusion

A place that has no goal for the future

I am from a place of depression

A place that hates everything about me

I am from a place where the sun finds a way to rise

This place helps me feel special and unique

This place comforts me no matter how shitty I feel

This place is where the sun never sets

This place will never be covered in darkness

And I hope that I will never leave this place

I am Sam Lin

I am from Oakland, CA

And this poem is from

an individual that has a unique personality

and a great story
