The central idea of “Key facts about Americans and guns”,
by Katherine Schaeffer is that gun violence is a big problem in our country, but the majority of people think guns are the problem. They believe that restricting these gun rights and laws is going to stop the criminals who get guns illegally. The only thing that they do when doing this is affecting law abiding citizens who are exercising their 2nd amendment right. People who follow the law are the only ones who are paying the price. Because no matter how many restrictions or illegal it is, the people who break the law are going to keep doing so. So instead of taking gun rights away and making gun laws so complex, they should be finding a way to stop the criminals who break the law and buy these guns illegally and use them illegally. I think that the government should be doing more to stop the criminals from doing what they are doing. They are just making it harder for law abiding citizens to be able to protect themselves and their loved ones from threats. Making gun laws stricter and more illegal, is not the answer to stop all of this, because the criminals are already buying their weapons illegally, so what does taking all the guns away for good do if they are going to continue to get them illegally? It does absolutely nothing but violate our 2nd amendment right. This helps me answer one of my research questions because it shows me that the government does not know any other ways to stop all this gun violence other than making all guns illegal.
A question I still have about my topic is what would happen if one day the government decides to make all guns illegal in the U.S.
Your post made me feel very sad because of the effects guns have and could have to the younger generation. As you continue your research, I hope the questions you want to know more about. #TLK
